Jennifer Krog, Employee Benefits Account Executive at McGrath Insurance Group, Inc., recently became certified through The National Association of Health Underwriters’ (NAHU) new professional development course on self-funded employer health plans.
Krog enrolled in the class in order to gain a better understanding of the key technical components of self-funding, and is prepared to counsel her clients on the various benefits of elimination of most premium tax, lowering cost of administration, claims/administration and customer service for employees.
More employers are turning to self-funded plans when they feel that traditional insurance programs aren’t meeting their expectations. Self-funding is the most cost effective way to control rising healthcare costs due to the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
There are other advantages to self-insured plans, such as coverage flexibility and client specific benefit plan administration. Since an employer is setting aside a money reserve from company assets, the company can then benefit if less claims are paid out than anticipated.
The National Association of Health Underwriters represents 100,000 professional health insurance agents and brokers who provide insurance for millions of Americans. By completing this three-hour course, Krog will receive two education credits from the Massachusetts Department of Insurance.
